Hmmmm . . .
Well, Steve, based on your image P1030021, perhaps you can try using the
device to search for any lingering shreds of sympathy that we might have for
you living in France. Maybe Bernard can help . . .
Two can play that game . . . perhaps you could help identify the lens on the
table, and if it ever stops raining here in the northwest of Oregon, maybe
we can do up some Côtes d'Agneau Grillées à l'Aïoli on the Weber . . .

Dear Milan (et. al.),
Thanks for your response.
Here are some answers to your questions:
I have attached some photos showing the slot, the notch and the extended
lens. The slot is just shy of 5 mm. in width and 10.2 cm. in length. The
maximal safely extended length of the whole assembly, including the box, the
sleeve, the tube, and the short rack, is about 34 cm..
The focal length at infinity is 170 mm. (as marked on the tube which also
says "Flour. F" and also has an index arrow -- pointing aft, at least as
found. (These facts only discovered when I extended it, as you suggested)
The lens has two elements, one at each extreme end of the 9.6 cm. tube; I'm
sure the 'front' element has 2 glasses, and I think the 'rear' does also --
at least 3 reflections in each. The forward visible surfaces are convex and
rear concave for each element, but I think the rear element glasses have
less curvatures than those in the front element. I have no tools out here
to open the elements without anxiety.
The wide scale photo is included to show you the difficult conditions we
operate in here in the wild woods of France.
All the best, Steve
