Yes, there is a nice Steinheil section in the 1893 Scovill & Adams Catalog -
I have that.  That's the year before the Orthostigmat came out.
 
I'm beginning to think that the flange is wrong.  But regardless, it isn't
any Othrostigmat I've found, either.
 
But from the focus, etc., I'm beginning to wonder about maybe process and/or
reproduction work.

Thank you . . . but I've got 1, got 2 and got 3.  All of those references
accurately describe the theory and design, but none of them describe what
engineers call "as built" - the physical reality vs. the blueprint.
 
That's why catalogs are so cool . . . remarkable how different things are
compared to their design specs.
 
But, Google Book Search is also pretty remarkable on its own.  Amazing that
they managed to OCR as well as they have.
