Charles C. Harrison . . . the most famous name in early American lenses.
 
Regardless of Schnitzer's name also appearing on the patent, Harrison
probably designed the Globe lens.  That alone would be enough.
 
But, also made many of the best portrait lenses of the time, and the
Orthoscope, and patented a very early iris (basis of all modern designs).
 
Darlot made many fine optics, but they were sort of like the Vivitar of
their day.
