From adelman at adelman.com Tue Oct 7 02:00:34 2008 From: adelman at adelman.com (Kenneth Adelman) Date: Tue Oct 7 02:12:39 2008 Subject: [CoastalRecords] New California Coastal Photography now online Message-ID: <36C6028D-F8BC-4492-94D2-0A3B6D490BA4@adelman.com> Gabrielle and I wanted to take this opportunity to give you a status update on the http://www.californiacoastline.org/ website. We spent the past few weeks rephotographing the coastline from N38 latitude (just south of Point Reyes) to the Mexican Border, and these new photographs are now online. Due to weather, we missed a small area from San Luis Obispo to the Vandenberg restricted area that we do not plan on rephotographing until 2010. Next year, we'll concentrate on rephotographing the northern half of the State. We've also been spending a lot of time feeding our scanner. The California Coastal Conservancy had a series of nadir photographs of the coastline taken in 1986 and 1993 (we're estimating 5000 total). They are color contact prints make from 9"x9" negatives, and they appear to include portions of the San Francisco Bay area. We plan on indexing them with an eye towards possible of a coastal "strip" into our website, and potentially making all of them available through a Google Earth kmz file. Attached is a teaser sample of one of the photographs. Once again, I'd like to thank our Internet Service Providers, Layer42 (http://www.layer42.net/) and Login.COM (http://www.login.com/) for their continued support of this project. Together, they have fully donated all of the hosting requirements of this site -- rack space, expertise, and bandwidth. Please consider them for your Internet needs.
